About

Northern lads The Lilacs are a high-energy indie force hailing from Wigan. In just a few short years, the band has transitioned from local favourites to a national phenomenon, cementing their status with a monumental sold-out show at Manchester Academy 1 on November 22nd, 2025.

With tens of thousands of listeners on Spotify and millions of streams worldwide, the band has become a staple on airwaves ranging from BBC Radio 1 and Radio X to their local champions at XS Manchester. Their debut single, "Vicarage Road," remains an anthem of the scene, now featuring on thousands of curated playlists and serving as the catalyst for their rise.

Formed out of a deep friendship in a previous band, Ollie Anglesea (Singer) and Sam Birchall (Lead Guitar) developed an appetite to create a legacy of their own. The line-up was completed in October 2018 with the addition of Dave Gomersall (Drums) and Matt Johnson (Bass Guitar).

The band’s name carries a profound weight. It was inspired by The Lilac Centre, a specialist cancer facility where Sam’s mother received treatment during her battle with secondary breast cancer. Following her passing, the "lads" felt the name was a tribute that simply couldn't be overseen.
